This may sound weird, because the Biggest Newser is a weight-loss competition, but my biggest problem as we head into the home stretch seems to be getting enough to eat - or at least getting enough of the right things to eat.
I’ve been working out like a fiend, and I’m closing in on my target weight, but Fabulous Trainer Becky Wenner says I need to increase my protein and green vegetable intake.
Unfortunately, as Becky repeatedly tells me, potato chips are not a vegetable. She has spent weeks gently encouraging me to eat Romaine lettuce, spinach, chicken and fish, and I have failed to live up to her expectations. So now she is getting tough.
“Protein!” she wrote me in a recent email. “Or you will lose muscle. Period, end of story. Eat the damn protein or so help me God, I will make you do 100 roundhouse kicks until you beg for mercy.
“Each day you don’t have two servings of green veggies, I am going to make you do 50 pushups,” she added. “Don’t test me. And with each pushup you will say, ‘I will eat veggies, I will eat veggies.’”
Her email also included this command: “Get drinking my friend!!! NO EXCUSES!”
I hope she is talking about water, because the last time somebody told me that, I woke up in that jail in the bowels of Veterans Stadium.
